Personal Make-up Lesson

Most of us see what we want to when we look in the mirror and over the years I have realised there is no wrong or right way to with make-up.  How and why we wear our make-up the way we do may be due to something a lot deeper than it's surface appearance, often through fear or simply not knowing, we can get "stuck in a rut" when it comes to makeup and grooming. I aim to asses, suggest and teach skills that will allow you to optimise your beauty routine, enhancing the best look 'for you'.

I offer a personal way of learning about make-up and how it relates to oneself - which is an ongoing education.  I work in fashion, but helping people to feel confident and beautiful in their own skin applies to everyone whether they are a model or not.  We are all individuals and there is no ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to make-up. Our skin and features change throughout the years and so should our approach to make-up.  Learning about textures combined with colours, application and finish will refresh and revitalise everyone's make-up.  My approach encompasses two vital and mutually dependent elements - Grooming and Make-up.

Every day I learn something new when I go to work.  I enjoy sharing this knowledge and  experience and it's a fun; exciting and fulfilling way to help my clients develop their individual look.

Grooming

Grooming is often over looked but it is the building block to wearing Make-up.  If you invest in it and do what is right for you, it will enhance, compliment and bring out the best in the makeup you choose to wear.  Cleansing and nourishing the skin correctly, eyebrow maintenance and eyelash tinting are some of the aspects we will look at.  Good and correct grooming will optimise your natural beauty; very useful for the days you may not want to wear any make-up at all!

Make-up

Our approach to ‘making up’ can be challenged.  I believe the makeup we DO NOT wear is as important as what we do wear.  Sometimes we can make the mistake of trying to cover up or hide what we may think are our 'flaws'.  I can show you how covering up sometimes can attract unwanted attention.  Highlighting or emphasising our 'good or favourite bits' can detract attention away from areas we may not like - hence lighter or no cover up may be best!

The Lesson

I will first tackle any direct concerns you may have and from there each section of the lesson will be tailored to you, including your time management and lifestyle.  All recommendations and products used will be noted for your reference.  You will learn by doing, at each step I will apply and demonstrate on one side of your face and then lead you through completing on the other side.  This allows you to become accustomed to correct movement and motions for the skin, teaching you tips and tricks of the trade along the way and finding what is most comfortable for yourself.  It's also your time to ask those questions that you always wanted to.

Bring along your makeup bag and let me have a look at what you like to use.  Towards the end of the session we will get a better idea if; what you own fits in with what you have learned during the session.  Don't panic, your favourite lipstick or eyeshadow may not have to go, different application technique may help you use it to look your best.  I will also advise on maintenance and hygiene to get the optimum use out of your cosmetics.

The skin

Like most things in life a solid foundation is vital.  Working from the base (skin) upwards is fundamental in my approach to my work.  A well cared for skin will help all makeup radiate.

In the lesson we will cover the following: -

* What skin care you use and how you use it

* Morning and evening routine

* Treatments i.e. facials; waxing; electrolysis, weekly monthly or none what so ever

* Eyebrow shaping/grooming

* Eyelash tinting

* Time management and life style

* Addressing such issues as scarring; ageing and facial hair

Base/Foundation

This is an area that a lot of women misjudge, whether by wearing too much foundation or the wrong colour/consistency for their skin type; not blending or even by not wearing any form of natural complexion enhancer etc. We will address the following to ascertain which will be best for you: -

* Tinted moisturisers; liquid or cream foundations

* Concealers

* Skin high lighters

* Testing colours correctly

* Balancing out pigmentation's

* Contouring - using foundation

* Powders - how and when to use

* Challenges - such as acne, birthmarks and ageing

Blusher

What affect does using a cream or powder blusher have on the skin?  Watch and learn about the following: -

* Different types i.e cream; liquid or powder and which is better for you

* Where to apply correctly for your face shape

* How to create effects such as flush or lifting

Eyes

What really suits your eye shape?  Most of us dream of achieving that dark sultry Smokey eye, but in all honesty it doesn't suit everyone.  That does not mean you cannot still achieve an equally deep sensual blended look with colours that suit you.  For your eyes I will help you to:

* Identify your eye shape

* Shade and highlight

* Choose the best colours and texture to use

* The best technique to apply different products

* Eyelash tinting

* Addressing such issues as wrinkling, scaring and ageing

Lips

Whether you have full or fine lips you will learn how to make the most out of your shape by looking at the following:

* Types of lipsticks i.e. translucent or matt and which is best for the look you are trying to achieve

* Your lip shape and how to alter

* Suitable colours for you

* How to apply i.e. with a brush or with fingers

* How and when (or not) to use lip pencils

* How to make it stay

“ My ultimate goal for your lesson is to give you the confidence and ability to apply and wear make-up that will maximise your beauty”.

TESTIMONIALS

Jakki M.  62yrs London

Julie is very professional. She asked many questions about my lifestyle, history and health before recommending skincare products and regime. I thoroughly enjoyed my make up lesson. Julie is very friendly and an excellent teacher taking you through the various stages and techniques carefully and clearly. She provides a written summary of everything you have learned and any new products after the session, as well as colour photographs.                                                                                                                                          This was a great investment. I now feel much more confident about the best skincare regime for my skin and age, and have learned how to best present my face. I like the fact that Julie uses your existing products where suitable. Julie is also very responsive after the lesson.

I’ve always struggled with putting on makeup, however, when I sat down to have with Julie she immediately made me feel comfortable.  Her experience made me feel confident that she knew what she was doing.  I have extremely uneven skin tone, but Julie was able to pick out the correct colours that suited my colour and skin texture - which can be dry in some areas and then greasy on other parts of my face.

I’ve used Julie twice; once when I was getting married and on another occasion when I wanted to get some professional photographs taken, I have full confidence in recommending her to others.

Yvonne H. 51yrs London

I loved my time with Julie, I found Julie knew lots about the different products, informing me of what was good for my tones. Her approach was very warm and friendly.

Jenny C. 33yrs London

Julie has done my makeup a few times now.  Every time she makes me feel confident and not ashamed of my bad skin! She comes up with new skincare regimes, new makeup ideas to suit me, my skin and also what is achievable for me to actually do myself. The products she recommends are also within my price range, which is important.  Julie is a calming, genuine character to be around and I instantly relax around her.
